Why We're Union: Hear our stories of organizing a union at Beneficial State Bank

Breaking News: We negotiated our first union contract!

We are frontline employees at Beneficial State Bank. We won a seat at the table when we came together to form our union with the Communications Workers of America. Now, as members of CWA Locals 7901 and 9412, we voted to approve our first union contract at Beneficial State Bank (BSB) on September 26, 2021.

It improves transparency and accountability, and contains a range of provisions that will assist BSB in fulfilling its triple-bottom-line mission - current policies that have been enjoyed are now memorialized in a durable contract, along with new protections and improvements across every aspect of our workplace. We are also helping BSB stand out as an industry leader, establishing a positive example for respecting and empowering frontline workers in the finance industry. Here are some of the highlights of our progress:

  • New Minimum Wage Rates based on the greater of (1) local costs of living estimates and (2) a minimum rate that rises from $20.50 to $22.25/hour by the end of the agreement;
  • ‘Just-Cause’ Discipline establishing due process and protection from unfair discipline.
  • A Joint Labor-Management Committee - to regularly meet and empowered to problem-solve a range of workplace issues;
  • A $1,000 Ratification Bonus;
  • Improved health and retirement benefits;
  • More paid training and educational opportunities; and
  • Increased transparency regarding performance and incentive pay.
